that was no fun at all

i hate games like that. its been a long time since the Boys were in a position
of not needing to win to secure the best playoff scenario. so then you start thinking
who plays ? who rests ? and the next thing you know you arent really thinking about
winning the dadgum game. and i guess that would be okay, if thats what you decide
to worry about. but if you decide that then just say it, rest everybody you can
and dont get cute with personal records and crap. that was the most frustrating game
to watch. were we trying ? or were we just padding stats and hoping to not suffer
injuries to key players. what made it worse is it was the redskins. i never want
to lose to them, ever. anyway it has been a good season so far, time to rest up,
game plan up, get the timing back and kick some butts in the playoffs. later Poke

hey buckaroos...warning BASEBALL talk too

been a while. holiday travel, hospital visits, poor internet connections.
i got plenty of excuses for not bloggin...
plus, if this is where i voice concerns i gotta be honest about something.
i am not real sure what to be concerned about.
i have never seen the Boys at 12-1 !! course i only been watching them
since the early 60's so what do i know.
i know our defense looked weak against the fearsome lions.
but we always play poorly in detroit.
and yeah i know our DB's are a little nicked up, and so is our RT and
our LB's seem to have disappeared in michigan.
but man 12-1 is too sweet not to just enjoy.
so thats what i been doing, just savoring the wins, stacking them up and
reveling in the greatness. telling myself to enjoy it cuz we all know how
quick it can slip away.
i do wanna say something about baseball here if you will bear with me though.
the "report" came out this week. lotta people named as using steroids. all the
talking idiots pontificating about who has ruined their chances to become hall of famers, big names too, some of the biggest. people saying they are through with baseball cuz its full of cheaters, and the big bucks and players moving from team to team.
yada yada yada. lemme tell you this. I loved baseball before i ever heard of steroids, before there was the term " free agent", before there were million dollar
journeymen. I loved seeing a guy throw 90mph, hitting a ball sky high, sliding catches, the green grass and the red dirt and the white chalk lines long before any
of that came to be and nothing, and i do mean nothing will ever make that change.
sorry but it just wont. so wail and moan, swear and pout, cuss and discuss if you
must. but me...i am just gonna wait till spring training and dig right back in.
just like i would if something bad happened to the BOYS of the BLUE STAR.

official post game wrap up

okay that was fun. it was cold and windy and rainy and snowy even.
not much but a little snow did fall.
it was hilarious when the crowd realized it was snowing a huge cheer erupted.
from grown people!!...for those of you not from texas, snow makes everybody here
act funny. it was just like the 2 times it ever snowed while i was in school.
the game just seemed well in hand from early on and the atmosphere around the
stadium reflected that. partying seemed to be the main thing. the thanksgiving day
crowd is always different than any other game. not too many jets fans where i was
and they seemed to know their team had no chance.
the T-New interception was amazing..he really snagged that ball outta the air.
romo seemed a little off at first but to be honest i think the whole team came out
to start the game way pumped up. anyway nice to be 10-1 for the FIRST TIME EVER
and i gotta check to make sure nobody got hurt, but man that was fun. later Poke

Cold day at Texas stadium

Windy and cold but the steaks were great.

It oughta be great.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY

okay, short week.
no time for all the intense film review and X's and O's
breakdown that I usually do. HAHAHA
Just gonna head for the Tabernacle of the Blue Star
and eat some steaks, meet some other fans and Holler
like crazy for the Good Guys.
I may even mobile blog from there if I can figure out
how to do it.
Till then Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy the day.later Poke

now you know why its a rivalry game

okay all you youngsters and peoples who didnt have a clue.
ya see, it really doesnt matter who has the better record,
the best players, who has starters hurt,or anything else
when these 2 teams play. these games always get weird.
funny, sometimes bad things happen...to good people and good
teams. i cant explain it nor can anybody else but now you
have seen it for yourselves. our best receiver had 4 td catches,
but we could have easily lost that game. we intercept a pass but it
doesnt seal the game cuz all of a sudden we cannot get that last first down.
its a team game, the defense saved it at the end but the offense put up
a lotta points too. so no matter how these games look, or what the stats
say...when you win against the deadskins, dont look back, chalk it up
as W and move on. thats what i am gonna do...bring on the J-E-T-S jets, jets jets !!
and the next time some supposedly knowledgable fan tells you how easily
the Boys are gonna beat the skins, dont believe em.
these games always have to be played out to the end.

a lesson to be learned

good job Cowboys, very sweet indeed to see ya'll go to NY
and beat them whining, mouthing, crybaby giants.
thats all i got to say about that.
in an effort to teach our players to just SHUT UP !
this blog will remain silent this week. hopefully
they will see that you dont need to jaw jack and mouth off
when they stop a runner who is running out the clock and then by your stupidity
set up a tying field goal.
thats all i got to say about that too. later Poke

B-I-G

B-I-G
this week is definitely big.
big in figuring out who leads the NFC East.
big in seeing how good our 3-4 defense is.
big in showing how Tank Johnson works out.
big in being consistent on offense against someone who has seen us already this year.
big for deciding who to use to replace our hurt rookie Fullback( does Garrett use Hoyte
or a TE to do the blocking and catching short passes)
big because nothing has been decided yet, other teams keep winning too ya know.
BUT
let me slip away from the NFL for just a second, a long awaited second.
BIG BIG BIG because this week, for the first time in their 41 year history my old
high school football team has made the Texas High School Football Playoffs !!!!!!!!
A lot of people are happy about that because even when we weren't good those folks
supported the football team. ( least they did when I was there a gajillion years ago.
So way to go Raiders !!!!
I just got me a feeling that this is gonna be a good weekend for the Boys.

Gather up the Young'uns

Hey fellow old timers, gather up your kids and grandkids and park their
carcasses in front of this blog. Get the snacks out. Heck, lets build
us a campfire and roast some marshmellows for them.
I got some news for the younger set, say, anybody 12 and under and maybe even
some of them kiddos up to about 16 or so. Everybody comfy ?
Now listen up.
Did you see that game Sunday night ? The one where the Boys of the Blue Star
whipped, defeated, smashed, creamed, and annihilated the low life, classless, clueless
and generally inept eagirls ??
Thats the way it should be.
I know ya'll are too young to know this, but the Cowboys are always supposed to beat
them Philly dogs like that. Sure, most of you have watched as us old folks ranted
and raved about our beloved Boys, talked about the good old days, how good the Cowboys were. Ya'll probably thought we were crazy, like the old uncle who talks about how much better life used to be. But you see its true. Thats how the old
Cowboys used to do it. Us old folks just got spoiled to seeing it, ALL THE TIME.
It didn't matter who the Boys were playing, where they were playing, or what night
the Boys were playing. You just knew the Good Guys in the Silver Helmets were
gonna win the game. You even got to expecting to have the game won before the 60
minutes was up, a little un-wind time before the score became official. I cant
remember how many times I was hoping nobody would get hurt in mop-up time, just like
i was worrying last night about it.
So quit yer snickering the next time Dad rambles on about Staubach, Drew Pearson, Dorsett, Aikman, Smith, Irvin, or when Grandpa wheezes his way through the list
of Meredith, Hill, Hayes, Lilly, Howley, Jordan, Too-Tall and the beautiful Harvey
Martin.
WE REALLY WEREN'T MAKING IT ALL UP. THATS THE WAY COWBOYS PLAY FOOTBALL.
Luckily, you young hopes of the next generation finally got to see it for yourself
cause that game Sunday Night was as good as one as I remember seeing.
The fact that it happened against the dirty birds from philly just makes it even more fun.later Poke

work up the HATE

OKAY its the eagirls. Time to start hating.
We haven't beat them since 2005.
Its time to stop that foolishness and get them
back to where they belong.
Drum up the memories of buddy ryan and his petty
fake kneel down against St. Tom in his down years.
And don't forget the "bounty" ol butty had either.
Heck its easy to work up the hate. I still remember
long legged Harold Carmichael beating us deep.
No one will forget the scumbag fans who cheered as
the Playmaker lay hurt on the field.
classless fans, coaches and stadiums are the iggles legacy.
BUT, more important is I just want to see the Boys play a
complete game. Offense, Defense, Special teams, for all 4
quarters.
Its time to see how good we can be. Git er done Wade.

Just another day at the Shrine

okay..good job Boys !!! 6-1 is good no matter how
you get there.
took a few pics, thought i would share them with
my comments.
first one was on the big screen....

believe it or not Newman ran routes and caught balls with the receivers during
pre-game warmups while the secondary did their warm-ups.

the crowd in section 34 couldnt be bothered to get off their butts to holler
until later when the team practically begged them to...first time I had seen
this section act this way, (more on this later)

TO made his presence felt...How does he get this wide open ??

hard to run when you take their feet out from under them !!

Now...this is where I RANT, the same bunch who would only holler when it was 3rd down
AND the team waved their arms to incite them...had no problem bouncing up
and screamin their fool heads off when asked "who wants a free T-shirt?".
a deja blue t-shirt at that....gimme a break !!

Oh well....enough griping. THE GOOD GUYS WON !!! no serious injuries, and we managed
to get out of the parking lot with minimum stress. I always take a shot of the final
score...

By the way, for those of you wondering why the Cowboys didnt go deep....
Romo didnt have enough time AND the vikes had 2 safeties deep pretty much all day.
Glad to see Tony didnt force anything and costs us.
and the worst day at Texas Stadium is still better than a day anywhere else.

A "MUST PLAY GOOD" GAME

maybe its safe to come back outside now.
hopefully the fallout from last week is gone by now.
The Good Guys lost. I gave myself about 30 minutes of
being mad about. Then i started worrying about the Vikings.
So we find out we dont have the best pass defense last week.
This week we get to see how good our run defense is gonna be.
Aint this fun ???????
Im looking forward to seeing what we do, and how we do it.
Counting on Wade to come up with a good plan. Then counting
on the Boys to execute it.
ITS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE BLUE STARS TO PLAY GOOD THIS WEEK.
Thats gonna tell me if they are pros, focused on what needs to
be done, not looking behind wishing they would have done it different.
Im not much of a predictor but I keep thinking that J. Jones is gonna
have a big game, soon.
And one of these weeks Mr. Owens is gonna bust loose on some team. I mean
really tear somebody up. Im thinking this is gonna be the week it happens.
Anyway, I am still enjoying these guys this year.later Poke

My thoughts to get thru this next week

[IF]

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

--Rudyard Kipling

get ready for all the dfw media to cry,rip and generally shovel dirt
into the Cowboys grave. not to mention all the "fans" who will blame
every possible thing for our loss this week. when it gets totally crazy
i will just keep reading this.

Tip Your Hat and move on.

well thats not what i was expecting.
spot a potent offense 14 points, fight your way
back to take a second half lead at home.
then.....give up 17 unanswered points.
somedays the other team outplays you.
today that happened. them pats have a lotta weapons.
we have got to start playing good much quicker to start
a game. WE ALSO HAVE TO CUT DOWN ON THE PENALTIES.
we arent quite good enough to beat a great team and
have 100 yards worth of penalties.
it was still fun to watch the game, a couple of things
here and there and the Boys could have snuck a win outta this one.
sometimes you just gotta "tip your hat" and start getting ready
for next week. later Poke

ps Okay that last TD made me mad, if the pats make it to the Super Bowl
i hope we run the score up on them.

I DONT CARE !!

I gotta quit reading the sports pages.
I gotta quit listening to ESPN radio.
Looks like i gotta quit listening to Sirius NFL radio too.
WHY ?
Becuase this week very very few give the Good Guys In Blue
a chance to win this weeks game versus the evil new englanders.
Nearly every stinking show picks the patriots. I think there
was only one that picked the Cowboys. All day Thursday I heard
it over and over and over.
Brady is better, Moss is better, their LB's are better, their
coach is better.
I DO NOT CARE !!!!!!
I AM A COWBOYS FAN. that gives me the right to BELIEVE that no matter
what stats say, what past performances say or any other "proof" they offer
MY COWBOYS WIN THIS GAME !!
Call me a "homer", call me uninformed, uneducated, naive, blind, dumb.
YA GOTTA BELIEVE that your team can beat anybody.
You see it every week. somebody always loses that should have won and vice versa.
This week you get to see it happen at Texas Stadium. like # 81 said....

OFFICIAL POST GAME WRAP UP

okay so its tuesday afternoon. not exactly a post game wrap
but gimme a break. no way was i gonna type anything last night.
it took me till nearly 1 am to wipe the stupid grin off my face enough
to go to sleep. and i surely couldnt put a coherent thought together.
that was as weird a game as i have ever seen in watching football.
all those interceptions, the fumble, the returned kick, fake punt
and on and on.
how bout that dallas DEFENSE ?? all those turnovers (6) and they
only gave up 1 field goal !! i know buffalo isnt a powerhouse but
the boys on the D played hard all night. even when they kept getting
sent out after yet another miscue. ( see, miscue is one of those cool
words i wouldnt have thought to use last night).
and to be honest i would have been okay changing qb's late in the game
because sometimes you just have a bad day and the game was close enough
i thought maybe let the old guy take his little dinks and dunks and see
if he could move us down the field without a turnover. (please note this is NOT
a call to change qb's, i was just thinking during the game we needed to
try something different )
but if Bums boy would have done that we would have missed seeing what makes
Tony special. he doesnt quit, doesnt give up on himself and always thinks
he can make the next play better than the last one. this game tells me more
about this TEAM than anything ive seen in a long time. guess it also tells me we
have found a kicker with ice water in his veins. style points be darned, i will
take the W !! later Poke

tellin it like it is

okay, everybody has had time to study the stats, records, and predictions.
now its time for some biased, personal feelings.
the Boys oughta kick the bills butts Monday night.
its that simple.
if you are gonna be an elite team, one that other teams dread
having to play, this is the kind of game you win.
we are going against a rookie QB, a rookie RB, a team that has won
only 1 game this year so far.
the boys need to make up their minds that they are going to show up,
play hard for 60 minutes, win the game, then grab their lunch boxes
and get on the plane for Dallas.
this game should show us if they are true pros or if they have been reading
too much and watching too much tv telling them how great they are.
i expect them to take care of business and i am looking forward to watching it.

FUN FACTS TO KNOW AND TELL

i have decided it is time to share my wealth of knowledge with ya'll.
this monday night you can be THE GUY, the one who has all the witty and wise
yet ever timeful things to say while watching the game. your friends will
come to realize that you know more about football, and the Cowboys in particular
than they do. That admiration and $4.73 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks so pay attention.

FUN FACTS TO KNOW AND TELL

Season Series
: The Cowboys and Bills have squared off
nine times, with Dallas winning six of those contests.
Series Notables:
* Dallas and Buffalo played each other in back-to-back
Super Bowls - Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII - with
Dallas being victorious in both.
* Only two games in the series have been decided by less
than seven points.
* Dallas is 1-2 in games played in Buffalo.
A Cowboys Win Would:
* Allow Dallas to start the season 5-0 for the first time since
1983 and the sixth time in the history of the team.
* Increase Dallas’s all-time series advantage to 7-3.
* Give Dallas their fifth straight win over an AFC team.
* Up Dallas’s record to 40-29 when playing on Monday
nights.
* Snap a two-game losing streak on Monday nights

QUICK FACTS:
DALLAS COWBOYS (4-0)
AT
BUFFALO BILLS (1-3)
Series Record:
Dallas leads the series 6-3.
Last Meeting:
@ Dallas 10, Buffalo 6, Nov. 9, 2003.
Last Meeting in Buffalo:
Buffalo 10, Dallas 7, Sept. 22, 1996.
Last Cowboys Win:
@ Dallas 10, Buffalo 6, Nov. 9, 2003.
Series Streak:
The teams have traded wins in the last seven meetings.

Those are the kinds of things you dont just find anywhere, you have to research,
dig, pry, cajole and really work hard finding. Of course if you are lazy like me,
you can just go to GOOD INFO
and read lots more stuff to tell your friends but then you may seem a little
"too over the top". time to buckle up them chin straps, cinch up the jocks and
play smart football. GO BOYS GO !

Post Game Wrap-Up

okay, i have listened to the masses, the many, the throngs,
dare i say even the hordes of readers ( all 3 of ya).
YOU WANT A POST GAME WRAP UP...YOU DESERVE A POST GAME WRAP UP.
using my brothers advice...him being a wise old man and all. i will be firm
but fair.

now here it is friday and i am already late for this weeks worrying.

Is it Time for the Game Yet ??

man what a long week. I have read everything about this weeks game.
I know the 4 keys to the Cowboys winning, the 5 things to look for,
the 3 downs for success, the "key matchups", I know who has guaranteed
victory and who has said "take it one week at a time". I know where
both teams are ranked, offensively and defensively.
I even read some St Louis newspaper accounts to make sure I was getting
all the info, from more than one angle.
I read an article that said..."the Cowboys win because..." followed in the
same article by "the Rams win because"....with reasons following both statements.
Man what a job that guy did straddling the fence. I think if I was his editor
i would fire him and tell him make up your mind.
Its early Sunday morning and I am sick of all the guessing and predicting and
spouting off. I am dreading turning on espn and hearing guys scream at me to get
their point about the X receiver and the cover-2 defense across.
Kickoff time cannot get here quick enough.
So get the grills fired up, whatever you drink on ice , unplug the phone,
walk the dog, and try to keep your eye off the clock cuz its only 9:15 and
gametime is nearly 3 more stinking hours away. later Poke

For Your Eyes Only

shhhhhhh...listen close. The Rams have a ton of injuries.
Yep, it seems like the whole offensive line is either out,
or playing hurt or playing out of their regular position.
The stud running back (stephen jackson...who it seems a
lot of Boys fans wanted us to draft instead of Julius Jones)
is out. Gonna start a rookie in his place. Their qb, Bulger
has 2 broken ribs, and even though their coach says he is
getting better I'm not too sure broken ribs heal that fast.
Now the reason I'm whispering is because i dont want the
Cowboys to hear any of that CRAP !!
THIS IS THE NFL.... everybody on the Rams roster is a pro.
Any team can beat any other team, theres a reason the old saying
"on any given sunday" is an old saying...its a TRUTH.
Lucky for us I am 100% certain that none of the Good Guys read
my blog. The secret is safe unless one of them watches any TV,
reads any local papers, or bumps into the little old lady fan
at the drugstore.
My point ? the Boys cant let any of that affect how they play this
game. Games are now and always have been won on the field. Injury lists
and comparing stats and playing 673 games on Madden do not pre-determine
the outcome. Sunday the Blue Stars have to buckle up them chin straps and
beat the guys on the other side of them no matter who it is. So i am looking
forward to seeing our guys win this week, now all i have to do is try and find
a place to watch it while i am temporarily away from home. later Poke
p.s. if the crowd isnt loud enough, blame my son who will be enjoying our
tickets with a couple of friends, although i have a feeling they will be doing their
part.

Fun time for Cowboys Fans part DEUX

does it get any better than this ????????
offense, defense, special teams, winning on the road!

sooo....is it time to drink the kool-aid ?

i love being 3-0, but the wise old man in me says
take a deep breath, exhale, and just enjoy it for what it is
to this point. And what it is , is a great start. Thats all.
We still gotta line up and play 13 more games to get thru
the regular season. Lots of pitfalls and funny bounces
remain . So dont look so far ahead, lets just take care
of the RAMS FIRST. Hey i waited till late Monday night

Fun time for Cowboys Fans

man its been a while. i know we still dont have a playoff
win in about a decade, the last super bowl was so long ago
there are lil kids in texas who werent born yet and now they are
almost to juinor high school. i also know its just 2 games.
but man what 2 games they were. ya like points ?? 45 in one,
37 the next time. Defense ?? how about 3 interceptions, 5 turnovers.
Special teams ?? punt returns and field goals and stopping #1 draft
choice kick returners. They did all that.
So maybe we aren't knocking on the door yet to the Super Bowl, ya gotta
start somewhere and 2-0 is a great start. BUT..........its more than that,
watching this team so far has just been fun...FUN!!! Players smiling and
laughing, the offense picking up the slack for the defense and vice versa.
The players dont look like they are afraid to PLAY. Our owner (like him or
hate him) is making some really funny commercials, the new stadium is rising
from the ground in Arlington.
We all tend to over analyze, predict, prognasticate and just generally worry
ourselves to death. Its meant to be enjoyed, savored and remembered. I'm
glad that feeling is back. Besides tomorrow is early enough to start worrying about
DA bears......later Poke
ps. yeah Flozell had some false starts but you know that guy playing opposite him
that didnt make any game changing plays ?? that guy was defensive player of the year
last year...good job Cowboys

Don't Count Your Dolphins Before They're Hatched

Hey Cowboys Nation...hold on a bit. Yeah I think the Boys
are better than Miami. So do the experts and the people
who set the betting lines. Visiting teams who are 3.5
point favorites are supposed to be better than the other team.
But...BUT things don't always work out like they are supposed to.
Thats why they make you actually play the games.
I'm still picking the Blue Stars to win but i ain't spouting off
about how sorry the Fins are or how bad the Boys are gonna whip em.
IF the team plays like they are capable of then this will turn out
good for us, but it still has to be done on the field.
We still have our starting CB out ( i dont think newman plays this week),
and we know our NT (ferguson ) is out. I am expecting Ratliff to play
very good though. Given a week to get ready I am looking for Wade
to come up with ways to maximize Ratliffs strengths and minimize his
lack of bulk. The offense needs to be consistent and while 45 points
would be super, remember this is the NFL so dont expect it.
So enjoy the game, be confident in the Good Guys, but its like your
parents always told you when you were kids:
Dont count your Dolphins before they are Hatched. ?? your parents never told
ya'll that ?? maybe i misunderstood what mine were saying..later Poke

Fan or Fanatic ??

I'm a FAN of the Dallas Cowboys...lot of us out there claim that, proudly too.
I'm not a FANATIC....or at least I try not to be.
Whats the difference you ask ? I'm sure a lot of ya'll have heard that "fan"
is just a short way to say "fanatic". I have been told that so I cracked open
the trusty old dictionary to see what Mr. Webster said about the 2 words.

fan: an ardent admirer or enthusiast (as of a celebrity or a pursuit) (science-fiction fans)

fanatic : marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion ex.(they're fanatic about politics)

Hmmm..okay according to Webster, maybe I'm more of a fanatic than I thought, I do
display exceesive enthusiasm and try hard not to be critical about The Boys.
Which brings me to my point in this well thought out, and professionally crafted
piece of blogalism.
For those of you who missed this weeks game and haven't heard the score yet, but
keep hearing on all the local radio talk shows and reading the message boards and fan
forums how poor the Cowboys defense played, here is a NEWS FLASH !!
THE DALLAS COWBOYS WON THE FOOTBALL GAME SUNDAY NIGHT !!

It was a great game to watch, fun from the first quarter to the last. Lots of points,
great plays, some good hits, enough nail biting flows of momentum to keep me happy.
Some bad things happened, players got hurt, balls were dropped, mistakes were made.
Hey its football, and there were 2 teams out there, each trying to make the other
do things they didn't want to do. And yeah, our Defense did give up a lot of points,
and too many big plays. BUT, the COWBOYS WON THE GAME.

So before you fall into the woe is me, life sucks, we don't have a chance this year
syndrome just take a deep breath, relax and chalk up a W in the win column.

I don't mind being a fan but after reading what Winston Churchill said about fanaticism I would rather not be called one, "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject".

So bring on the Dolphins, buckle up them chinstraps and maybe this week we win 3 to 0. of course i could be wrong.....later Poke

Gotta Deal With It

injuries........ya gotta hate em, worry about em, dread em
and wish they never happened. to anybody. our team, the other
team, any team. you would get a much better game to watch no
matter what sport or event you are looking at.
but hey, life happens and injuries are a part of it.
every year somebody gets hurt, on every team, in every sport.
so what do you do ?? quit ? cry ? wail and gnash your teeth ?
sure go ahead if any of that makes you feel better, doesn't
change anything but go right ahead.
The Boys dont have any choices, you dont cancel the season..
I promise you ol Jerruh aint giving no money back and I am not asking anyway.
Nows the time ...some lesser known and maybe even some almost unknowns
are going to have to step in there and show us what they got.
Hopefully its enough, I feel certain at least one good surprise will come out
of these injuries...I'm just not sure who its going to be.
I will say this, Im sure gonna miss Terry Glenn if he is out for the season,
and I am also gonna miss Greg Ellis. I know a lot of folks are down on him now
but I have always liked his ability and how he played.
Newman being out any at all is gonna hurt too, but hey if Reeves and Jones have what it takes nows their time to show us all.
I am still excited and Optimistic about this season, I'm just waiting for Sunday night...bring on them Giants...i gotta go get my tailgating stuff packed up.

Looking Back while Looking ahead

okay so i was thinking about what to say about this years training camp and i
remembered thinking the same things i had thought before. so i went back, dug out this blog and figured that if you changed the dates, removed the parcells reference,
it applied to this year ( and pretty much every year). so i decided to re-post it.
aaron glenn getting cut definitely surprised me, newman being hurt fits in, everybody has their own surprise player that made the team and in the end none of it matters
because starting sept 9...........only the won-loss column matters. later Poke

Training Camp Predictions

ok here goes nothing. this year i predict : at least one player we are counting on will get hurt. at least one player will get released that surprises us. at least one player will make the team that didnt have much of a chance at the beginning. bill parcells will throw a fit at least once a day. jerry jones will get on TV at least once a day. the 4 networks and 2 newspapers from the DFW metroplex will barrage us with insights that aren't insightful . players will have ups and downs throughout camp and us fans will freak out or jump up and down when each event is reported. none of it will matter when the first play comes in the regular season because then it all boils down to each player whipping the opposite player on the other team . i keep telling myself this so i dont get too crazy waiting for 9-11.....when once again we get to watch football on TV . ( i dont count preseason games as "real " football. if this is helpful to your mental state make a donation to something in my honor. later Poke

Finally

Okay the preseason, exhibition, games are over. I did watch tonights game, at least
parts of it. Officially the Boys were 2-2 this year. Since I only count the the
parts of the game where people who will actually be playing when the season starts
I am gonna call it 2-1-1. I just write the last game off as a tie since neither
team ever looks like they will just a week later.
Im still optimistic about the Good Guys this year. A little concerned over injuries
that seem to be hanging on to some of our starters but hey it happens every year to
every team. The winners find a way around it.
As much as I gripe about the preseason i kind of like it. Its the only time you probably get to see a lot of these guys, and these guys are the ones giving your
starters the looks during the week as they practice, so the better they are the better
your team should be.
Anyway, strap on the helmets, get the chips and hot sauce ready...ice down a beer
if you want and lets get ready for some FOOTBALL !!

Confession is good for what ail's ya

confession time...........i didnt watch tonights preseason game.
apparently i had as much interest in it as our players.
now i have to decide if the sky is falling or was it just a preseason game
and isn't that big a deal. feel free worldwide readers to let me know which
way i should go. i did see the td to owens, looked pretty sweet. i promise
to do better next week.

A quiet optimism

A new head coach, a few new players, new coaches on both sides of the ball.
It could be, and for most teams and in most places it would mean a not so great
season. But i just have a feeling that this is gonna be a good year for us Cowboys
fans. Now dont ask me to tell you why, X's and O's and stuff isn't my strong suit
and there are plenty of experts out there to explain all of that. Nope I am just
being a fan, a homer even, I am just liking the way this team looks put together.
I went and saw 3 training camp practices, watched the first preseason game on TV
since i was on the road that day. And i liked it, liked the overall feeling I had
while watching them. The offense looks exciting, not quite so predictable and you
have to expect Romo to be even better this year than last. The defense should be
in good hands, Wade Phillips may not be the most quotable person ( some people say
that but I enjoyed listening to him at his press confernces in San Antonio,
especially when he told us (the fans) to boo the reporters if they asked any
questions we didnt like.)but nobody can question his defensive expertise. The kicking
game should be solid if not spectacular and we just looked fast, so I am expecting
special teams to play a large role in our games this year. Anyway it feels like
spring training to me, Opening Day if you will and my optimism is growing daily.
How will it turn out ? Heck if I know, my name isn't Nostradamus. For now put me down
at 11-5 and a trip to the NFC Championship game......I will predict later how that
will turn out. Course this is all just my opinion, I could be wrong. Later Poke

staying calm before the storm

okay, the light is at the end of the tunnel. hopefully its not a train coming
straight at me. we have made it thru the dreaded off-season, with all the non football
related stories (which i refuse to even list here).
next week is the start of training camp and the week after that i am slipping off
to san antonio to take a look at this years Boyz myself. (luckily my wife needed to be
in san antonio or i doubt i would be going).
soon we get to see if Romo is the real deal, if our # 1 pick Spencer is what we need him to be ( uhh like somebody to help Ware GET TO THE QB !!), IF Greg Ellis can
make it back from his injury ( dont discount the importance of this casual fans),
if our duo of running backs can carry the load, if our great but aging receivers can
do it for one more year, and ....to me the most important IF....if our Offensive
line is as good or BETTER than last year. ohhh wait, maybe the most important IF, is
if our Secondary can stop the DEEP passes, or maybe IF our head coach does a better
job of motivating the team to play ALL 16 games, including the last 4 of the season.
Of course we do need to see IF our kicker can make more than he misses, and IF our
new holder can hold the ball while our kicker kicks.
So strap on the ol helmets, sit back and enjoy......it oughta be a great ride .

change is good

okay..how bout some changes. wow...thats a bunch of changes.
im good with wade phillips as coach, like jason garret in whatever capacity,
love hiring dat to coach the backers, so far ive seen nothing i didnt like
about the new staff. not gonna worry about who we sign in free agency, who we draft,
or who we bring back. no worries mon ( sorry that cruise i took hasnt worn off yet).
gonna take some time off from football, the sun is shining, its warm and the
pitchers and catchers have reported to SPRING TRAINING !! made it thru that dead space between football and baseball. so until something happens i wont be here
blogging about the boys...enjoy the silence cuz i will be back.
hopefully i will see minute maid park again this year because i really dont like
the rangers and i dont like the ballpark in arlington after about june 1. tell
me again why there isnt a roof on that thing ??

round and round and round we go....

and where we stop nobody knows. least of all the talking heads on sports talk
radio, espn, sirius, local newspapers, message boards. be real. WE DONT KNOW !!
does anybody really think they have an answer for WHO IS JERRY GONNA HIRE TO BE THE NEXT HEAD COACH OF THE DALLAS COWBOYS ????????
okay jason garret is hired in some capacity, im all for that. but lets get real,
it could be wade phillips, norv turner, gary gibbs OR ANYBODY ELSE HE WANTS.
maybe he hires Dan Reeves...i could live with that, lotta history with Reeves.
but to be honest im so HAPPY that the TUNA is gone...all i can say is i dont care who the next coach is...just please let it be somebody who embraces the Cowboys
rich history not the New York Football Giants history.
please let it be someone who, when they talk, i am not reminded of that movie,
The Lords Of Flatbush. Let it be someone who does more than stare at a player when he screws up...and never utters the words..you are what you are. thats not the way a
coach talks ! a coach is guy who is convinced he can make you better than what "you are', thats his job.
and i know jerry jones would have to be hard to work for as a coach. thats why
when we were struggling finding a coach who would even come to dallas i thought
jerry should hire a great offensive coordinator and a great defensive coordinator
and just appoint HIMSELF...HEAD COACH. try it, find out if he can or cant do it.
get it out of his system. then move on.
so lets all sit back and just wait...i know thats a hard thing to do nowdays, but lets try. see who he hires, give the new guy a chance to prove himself and then
if it doesnt work...run him out of town and talk bad about him. its the american way!

REPOST AUGUST 2005...+ GOODBYE

well it finally happened....ol Bill finally gave up. admitted he didnt have it in him
to do the year long grind. hung up his whistle.
so let me say..thanks for your effort. i hope you enjoy the house by the racetrack in jersey. you had a great career and you DID improve the Cowboys. not as much as i had hoped but you did. you also proved a real head coach could work with jerry jones.
that will help in the next search. now having said all the nice things let me
REPOST my blog from august 2005 ( i think ).

--->originally titled " out of the closet"

hah !!!! got you with that title i bet. different closet though. i just cant stand it any longer, i have a secret to tell. i want to get it off my chest before the season starts because it really has nothing to do with wins and losses. okay...here it goes. I DONT LIKE BILL PARCELLS. Ahhhhhh i feel so much better now. sure he's the coach of my favorite football team. sure i even think he is the best coach for us right now. after years of incompetence and yes men jerry jones had to get a real coach. bill parcells is definitely a real coach. until jones proved he could butt out and let a coach be the coach we were not ever going to get anybody here worth a dern. parcells is a good coach, a winning coach, a smart coach....but it still doesnt make me like him. Im not sure why. it probably comes from the fact that for years he was the coach of the NY Giants and we played them twice a year and sometimes they beat us. or it could be that its because he is a yankee..you know..the whole speech, mannerism attitude thing. just rubs me the wrong way. for too many years we had coaches who at least acted like they wanted to keep the fans happy, the media informed and project a whole "one big happy family " theme. he doesnt do that. or at least not very well. do i wish him ill will ?? of course not, i am pulling for him all the way, i hope he gets us to another super bowl win....soon really soon. and then i hope he takes his grumpy, sarcastic, joisey sounding , condescending , smart aleck butt back up there. its just a personal thing , if you dont agree i understand completely..later Poke

no clever title..sorry

well i waited all week to wake up. find out it really was a nightmare.
romo didnt really drop the snap on the field goal. but here it is saturday,
got the old cowboys sweatshirt on, turn on the TV and realize...yep it happened,
it wuz real, the Boys In Blue did lose to seattle. season over, outta the playoffs
ugggghhhhh. i wasnt ready for the year to be over. i wanted more Cowboys football.
too bad for me. Im not ready to worry about whether ol Bill will coach next year,
or if TO will be back, or who is gonna be the new Defensive Coordinator. way too
many things to worry about, who to draft, which free agents to sign, which of our own players to let go of. so im just not gonna do it yet. not my job anyway.
i am going to watch indy and baltimore battle it out, then watch the saints
beat them sorry eagles outta the playoffs. just sit back and enjoy watching LT
run wild against the Pats and then watch like everybody else and see if the bears QB
has another horrible game or the seahawks are maybe better than we gave them credit for. i am going to just enjoy watching the games for what they are. i will worry
about our Boys later, maybe next week, maybe not. heck if Big Bill doesnt have to
decide until February no sense me worrying about till then.
and truth be told i am still so DISGUSTED i hate to say anything lest i say something
i regret saying later...cuz win or lose they are still MY DALLAS COWBOYS.
so watch the playoffs, enjoy ( and keep an eye out for available free agents).

how bout that romo ??

how bout that romo...
thru a great team effort we managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
listening to the ticket 1310....pig vomit..pour the anointing oil down the drain...
greatest choke job in team history..the cowboys dont own a linebacker..those guys are almost as mad as i am !!
oh well its too much to listen to. but it was funny and i so needed something to cheer me up. later Poke

im gonna say it

i havent been drinking, no drugs, nor have i been hit really hard in the head...lately.
i really feel like the Good Guys are gonna come out and play a real game in seattle.
i think julius jones has a big game this week. parcells wanted him rested for something..this has to be what it was. if the Boyz can get a ground game going then LOOK OUT for the play action stuff to start clicking.
on the Defensive side...those guys have to still be mad about last weeks drumming.
im looking for some slobber knocking hits from the Cowboys. surely they have heard the jokes about changing the name of the Dallas Cowboys to the Allas Cowboys ( cuz we all know there isnt any D in these guys...i know i have heard it enough this week
that i wanted to hit somebody ).
so no matter what the weather, no matter if all of the seahawks starting cornerbacks
are hurt...i am expecting the Dallas Cowboys to show up and play like the Dallas Cowboys. ol Bill ain't my favorite coach but he has been in a few playoff games, he knows what the team needs to do and i feel certain he has been telling them all week
whats at stake today.
so here ya go...Cowboys 24 seahawks 17...now sit back and enjoy the game. later Poke
