verbal valium

im no doctor so these few words are the best i can do.
most cowboy fans need a big ole dose of valium right now.
i know i know it looked like the Cowboys had some yesterday .
i didnt see much of that game. lucky me.
had to catch a plane and make a drive and only saw parts of it.
you had to see this coming didnt you ?
this team has had ups and downs all year but honestly most
of the ups were early.
there may be some coaching changes, but i wouldnt expect the major
spots to change.
there will be some player changes but none of our stars will be going anywhere.
the NFL isnt gonna change the rules that say you actually have to play the games
on the field....the best group of players ( notice i didnt say TEAM ) doesnt
get credited with a Win.
for a whole lotta reasons the Good Guys just couldnt get it right this year.
but after we suffer thru watching the playoffs and then that long sad part of the year known as February we can start thinking about the draft.
maybe Jerry fires a special teams coach or replaces the O-line coach, makes a few
cosmetic changes.
Dont expect a major shakeup, or a mass exodus of players, just let the wounds heal.
then when summer is here, training camp starts and we get to do this all over again.
i for one cant wait.........later Poke

they tore my heart out and stomped that sucker flat !

what a sad day and sad way to end an era.
Texas Stadium went out with a whimper and 65,000 curses
from diappointed fans.
i can honestly say i never saw anything like those 2 75 yard + runs.
neither has anybody else because that was a first.
it could have been a great day, instead it was just the end.
Texas Stadium deserved better than that, those ex players who showed
up and stood in the cold deserved better than that.
but its football, no scripts, no Hollywood endings.
luckily i had Christmas to keep me from totally freaking out about it.
got to see family and friends, enjoy good food, swap a few lies and a gift or two.
now thats gone for another year, time to start worrying about the Boys again !
i read today where we havent won a final game in 8 years...are you kidding me ??
before we spend another second worrying about a playoff game we gotta win a regular season final game.
i hope the Good Guys realize the season DID NOT END at TS last Saturday.
a win sunday will go a long way to wiping that bitter taste from my mouth.
ya just gotta hope the right Cowboys team shows up.
it would be nice for this to be the Game where all phases play good for the WHOLE game...so if anybody out there saved any Christmas wishes ( sorry i didnt ) please wish for that. later Poke

focus

focus is my word of the week for the Good Guys.
sure last week was a circus with all the he said...she said
stuff going on.
somehow the Boys focused and beat the Giants.
but this week....how can you not be thinking about
this being THE LAST GAME AT TEXAS STADIUM ?
i know the players dont all look at this like us fans do.
but you would have to be in that cave with Bin Laden to
not see or hear or read something about this being THE LAST GAME.
the Tabernacle of the Blue Star will be buzzing saturday, it opens
early, its gonna close later with a monster celebration. ex-players
will be there, legends, fan favorites, who knows.
i just hope the current Pokes keep their focus on the Ravens.
not the stadium, not the playoffs, heck not even Christmas.
BEAT THE RAVENS. that is job 1. there is no job 2.
let us bloggers and real sports writers and tv pretty boys
take care of the sentimental stuff.
You guys with the stars on your helmets take care of the heavy lifting.
us mere mortals will do all the poetic waxing and tear jerking.
STAY FOCUSED......BEAT THE RAVENS.....

another day in Paradise

what a beautiful day it was Sunday.
the sun was shining but not too hot.
the wind was blowing but not too hard.
The Cowboys won the football game !!
great day to be at Texas Stadium ( arent they all ??)
Its always fun at a night game.
Lotta good food, great company.
The Cowboys won the football game !!
The defense played GREAT.
the offense did what it had to do.
special teams didnt kill us.
The Cowboys won the football game !!
ted nugent did the star spangled banner.
christmas show at halftime.
TO, Romo and Witten kissed and made up.
The Cowboys won the football game !!
Tashard Choice ran that touchdown in right towards us.
We had a great view of the Crayton td catch.
Our fullback scored a touchdown.
The Cowboys won the football game !!
we keep our playoff hopes alive.
loved the video board showing old highlights.
I am gonna miss Texas Stadium.
and did i mention that.......The Cowboys won the football game !!

The Hits just keep-a-comin

call 9-1-1
our Guys just keep getting hurt.
so now Pacman may be out for the year,
Keith Davis is hurt even if he is practicing.
Ken Hamlin is hobbling.
Holland is hurting...our o-line isnt gonna get better.
and ya know what ?
this stuff happens to teams every year.
We have been lucky the last few years.
WE forgot this stuff can and does happen.
you know what though ?
The NFL isnt gonna cancel our last 3 games.
nope gonna make us play em.
so Wade and Jason and Brian (defensive coordinator) are gonna have
to get creative, erase the depth charts, think outside the box.
either that or run scrubs out there and try to hide them, make up for
the weaknesses by doing something else better.
WE are not the first team to have people hurt, wont be the last.
Im feeling pretty good about beating the Giants, time to see if this team
is hungry enough to sell out and do whatever it takes, from whomever it takes,
to win.
it makes it interesting huh ?
it would be nice to have a spot sewed up by now but thats not what we got.
dontcha just love it ??

Snatching defeat from the Jaws of Victory

madder than a wet hornet...sick to my stomach...sorely disappointed.
take your pick, any and all describe me right now.
The Boys hopefully feel the same way.
I was so proud of those guys.
Road game, cold cold weather.
Star players hurt and more getting that way all day.
Looked bad on offense from the start.
Defense kept us in the game.
Tied at the half, okay we gotta chance.
GREAT 3rd quarter, Romo overcame his horrible start.
Choice looked great all day.
Ahead 13-6 after the defense held Pitt to a field goal.
Pitt kicks the kickoff out of bounds !!! Our ball on the 40 !!
A short field...a field goal puts us up 10 and it didnt look like Pitt
could even score once much less twice.
Even a halfway decent drive puts this game in our pocket, eats up some clock
and keeps the ball away from Pitt.
But like my old dad used to say " some people just cant stand a lil prosperity ".
The Good Guys started blowing it right then...bad play calls, even worse execution
and wow 3 plays later we punt.
poor punt coverage kept the ball rolling downhill against us.
The Pitt offense makes some plays and the Dallas D just cant keep stopping
them all day long.
score tied.
enough time for us to move down, score and still win.
nope, not today.
witten and romo run different plays and the unthinkable happens.
just like that the Boys turn victory into defeat.
welcome to December in Cowboy fandom.
still proud of the good guys effort.
just bitterly disappointed in the result.
and oh so sad.

ps. somehow we gotta shake this loss off, get ready for the football Giants
and beat them at Texas Stadium. COME ON COWBOYS !!!!

just another BIG game

tough day coming for the Good Guys in Pittsburgh.
snowy and windy is the weather prediction.
be a good day to run the ball right at them and just
pound the old rock in there.
huh ? whats that ? our star RB has a hurt toe ?
it figures, thats the way this year has rolled out.
we seem to get our offense lined out and clicking and
then a piece is hurt.
ive seen teams do well in the passing game in bad weather before
but i would feel better if Barber was at 100% and i would feel
even better if our o-line had been run blocking better all year.
the Cowboys rep as a finesse, big play team doesnt exactly inspire
confidence in a December matchup in Pitt.
But you know what ? you still gotta play the dern game.
you gotta line up, run the plays and the team that makes them that day
wins the game.
Jason Garrett better have his thinking cap on cuz if the pass plays aint
getting it done, he is gonna have to figure out a way for whatever RB
is in there to get us some yardage.
im looking for Bigg and Columbo to clear a path for Barber or Choice.
Romo and the playmakers will have to pick their spots carefully but at some
point Sunday...the Boys are gonna have to run the football.
oughta be fun to watch....Go Cowboys !!!!!
it goes without saying our D needs a strong game and I am expecting them to shine.
mebbe even get us some points.

thanks Dallas Cowboys

what a day.
thats the kind of day Thanksgiving was invented by Al Gore for.
great weather, GREAT FOOD, great company and GREAT FOOTBALL.
The Boys took care of business, hopefully the injuries arent too bad
for Ware and Barber...use these 10 days to heal up.
Tashard Choice looked really good running that ball.
Great to see Witten and Romo hooking up again.
TO did what he does...(make great catches, miss a routine one )
and Roy 11 seems to be getting a feel for the offense.
Holland at left guard appeared better than Proctor.
The DEFENSE was awesome, NO TD's !! Scandrick is a player !
James was what he should always be.
Good grief we even had a great kick return by Stanback !!
how long have we been waiting to see him do something ?
so the Boys have set themselves up to be able to make a run
at the playoffs....it oughta be interesting !

is it Thanksgiving already ?

man i am slipping.
its game day and i never even waxed poetically about last weeks
big win over the whiners.
the way that game started i was afraid we were in for a long day
at the Tabernacle.
the big plays to TO,and the defensive stands in the red zone kept the game
from getting away from us.
The blocked punt felt huge in waking the whole team and the crowd up.
Good job but no time for looking back.
The Boys will hopefully come out smokin T-day, get ahead early and stay
with it so I can enjoy the feasting and holiday atmosphere that is Thanksgiving
Day at Texas Stadium.
I can only imagine if I am having trouble finding time to blog for 5 minutes
about the Good Guys how hard it is for the players and coaches to get focused
on playing again Thursday after the game Sunday.
So heres wishing all a Happy Thanksgiving....we all have plenty to be thankful for.

long road back

well that was the first step.
good job Cowboys.
they played with an urgency and sense of purpose.
those bye weeks are a good thing.
good to see Romo out there, push passing that ball......
you could tell that pinkie bothered him some but he was so much better
than the other guys we could send out.
thats the defense we thought we would have all year, thanks T-New !!
i agreed with Wades choice at the end not to kick that field goal because
the last thing i wanted to see was our kickoff team have to stop anybody.
at some point you have to impose your will on the other guys and show them
that you can beat em and thats what our o-line and Mr. Barber did.
this was the start of that long road back the good guys face to get into the
playoffs. our earlier miscues have cost us the right to look too far ahead.
the biggest game of the year is against the 49ers. its a must win.
i plan on copying that last line and re-blogging it every week and just cutting
out the opponent and typing in the new opponent.
thats part of my saving energy....going green initiative...gotta save all the electronic trees you can you know...
shouldnt be too hard to work up a hate for the 49ers should it ?
so heres hoping the Boys get back to work this week, add some new wrinkles and
maybe spend a few extra minutes working on kickoff coverage.

back to work

well i feel good. the effects of blogging for 9 games was catching up to me.
strained eyes are kind of day to day but that nagging carpal tunnel seems to be 100%.
the aching back from sitting hunched over typing has responded to treatment and i expect to be on top of my game from here on out.
i also expect to see a different team against them no good deadskins sunday night.
this team will have newman, kosier, spencer, felix jones, tony romo all back from injuries along with the added threat of roy (ut) williams. flozell should be closer to
100% than he was and the ribs of witten have got to be feeling better even if they arent healed up.
there is no reason we cant expect marked improvement over the last few weeks with our guys back and healthy.
maybe the coaching staff did make a few tweaks and will have a better game plan, heck maybe they spent some time talking about penalties and dumb mistakes.
special teams may still be a little "iffy" , a new holder could be a problem but our substitute punter seems to be working out okay.
i am looking forward to seeing the Good Guys play with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and purpose.
see how much the week off helped my blogging ?? maybe it did the same for our beleaguered guys of the gridiron.

too much talk

okay so its hard for a blogger to admit.
there is too much Cowboys talk going on.
that wont keep me from expounding even more on the Boys but
i have to at least point it out.
the local radio idiots have been having a field day.
espn has not missed a chance to build up our guys, then
spend an equal or greater amount of time tearing them down.
remember this was a team that was going to the Super Bowl
not that long ago.
but heres the deal...this isnt fantasy football, where stats
count as scores, where you can just add or subtract players
depending on how you feel.
this isnt madden 09, where anything you can dream up actually works
on the gridiron.
nope its football. where players have to show up ready to play.
where star players get hurt and sit out weeks at a time.
where role players either step up or you have glaring holes where once
you had stability.
the message boards are full of suggestions, comments, plans and bold
declarations that the posters know how to fix all the Good Guys woes.
everybody thinks they are a coach.
at the Tabernacle last week the geniuses behind me werent fans. they were critics.
every move, play, bad throw or coaching decision was met with derision.
they were almost gleeful in their putting down of men who have spent their lives
doing....what these numbskulls behind me wish they were doing.
making a living playing or coaching football.
i understand the enjoyment of "talking football". all the what ifs and whys.
we have moved way beyond that point.
all these commissioners of fantasy land football actually believe they know better
than guys who spend hours, days weeks, months...their whole lives studying football.
gimme a break.
theres a reason the real coaches and players are down there and you and me are
sitting up there in section 34.
its hard to admit but go ahead. it will make you feel better. they are better than
we were !! see....i bet you already feel better.
now look..i like certain players more than other ones BUT...that doesnt mean i am
a better football player than say... bobby carpenter. sure he has been
a disappointment but be honest with yourself, look around the stadium, do you really
think you or the guy sitting next to you would give us a better chance to stop
Warrick Dunn on 3rd and 7 ??
what i would like to see is more fans, less coaches.
could be its just me or maybe a lot of you are just nuts.
oh yeah....im still thinking the Boys go to NY and kick some Giants butts.
i dont know how they are gonna do it, in fantasy land im sure it looks impossible.
but hey thats my team and i count on them doing the impossible.

real problems....no real answers

4 and stinking 3.
i never would have thought thats where the Boys would be at this point.
i thought our O-line was better than that.
thought our defense was WAY better than that.
this team does have real problems.
special teams is another real problem.
then throw in the perception that the team has no identity or mental toughness.
our record indicates those are all valid, REAL problems.
but i havent seen any real solutions.
i dont think firing Wade is the answer. do you really want to throw it all out the window midseason ? i dont.
you cant really fire players and expect to just go get better ones.
so what can we do ?
you just have to hope that the re-evaluation Wade says they are doing turns up something that can have positive effects.
you have to hope the players look inside themselves and decide THEY ARE going to play better.
you might release a player if you think " a message " needs sending.
you might fire a special teams coach to open some eyes on the coaching staff.
you might demote a player or two to let these guys know they have to earn their spots.
you might stiffen some penalties for players who keep making the same mistakes over
and over again.
you might even throw a kicking, screaming, spit flying tirade.
but you dont lay down and quit. not now. not ever.
you dont blow the whole thing up.
not at this point in the season. NOT YET.
so instead of going off half cocked, put some thought into what you CAN DO...then
DO IT !!!

dealing with grief

what can i say ?? i am so disappointed.
i knew the Boys had a huge task today.
all the injuries, suspensions, and general unease about the
desire and motivation of our team made todays game very lose-able.
i can deal with losing.
i cant deal with losing all the ways we lost today.
losing games is one thing but losing hope of being a good team hurts too much.
so i will continue to believe that the Boys can be good.
i will continue to believe that the offense will remember how to block, throw, catch
and score points.
i will continue to believe that the defense will figure out how to stop the run,
get some pressure and defend long passes.
i will continue to believe that the special teams can be special in a positive sense
because we have seen they can be special in a negative one.
i will continue to believe that our coaches will learn how to motivate and teach these guys how to play the game with desire and discipline.
we are only 7 games into a 16 game season, still time to get it right.
i am way beyond the throwing things stage of fanhood i have inhabited.
some of you may not be so i offer some wise advice on my way outta here.

There is no right or wrong way to grieve. All your feelings are normal. It is helpful, however, to know that human grief is a process that often follows a healing pattern.

Shock is the first stage. It is accompanied by disbelief and numbness and a mistaken thought that the Boys were better than they really are.

Denial follows quickly, crying "I don't believe it," or "It can't be."

Bargaining is your promise that "I'll be so very good that maybe I can wake up and find that it isn't so. I'll do all the right things if only....", wearing your jersey every day of the week isnt gonna make the team win these kind of games...i have proven that to myself.

Guilt is painful and hard to deal with. This is when one says over and over, "If only I had..." or "If only I had not..." This is a normal feeling and ultimately it may be solved by stating, "I'm a human being and I gave the best and worst of me to the Cowboys and what they do with that is their responsibility.

Anger is another big factor which seems to be necessary in order to face the reality of life and then to get beyond it. We must all heal in our own ways. Anger is a natural stage through which we must pass. I will
add that throwing things or kicking them doesnt really help in the long run.

Depression is a stage of grief that comes and goes. Knowing this, be prepared to give yourself time to heal. Resignation is a late stage. It comes when finally you accept the truth.

Acceptance and hope! Understand that the Good Guys wont be 16-0 but your life can go on to find meaning and purpose.

i do want to say that i got this info from dealing with much more serious matters than a football game and i dont want anyone to think i am making fun of those matters. i am however making fun a little of how serious we take our football, but just a little cuz i really am disappointed and madder than i should be.

addition by subtraction

so i dont have any inside info.
BUT....the lack of players screaming how much they are
gonna miss Adam Jones leads me to think that maybe he
wasnt that beloved by most of his teammates and that
just maybe the Boys will be better of without him.
do not take this wrong.
i was glad JJ signed him. i had hoped he would light it up.
he hasnt yet but i felt like he would get better.
he still might. but for at least 4 weeks it dont matter.
my feeling is that the Good Guys will rise to the occasion.
the rookies will grow up in a hurry.
now the loss of Romo is a whole nother story.
no way do i think losing him helps us.
having said that i am actually glad we have the old guy Brad Johnson.
his experience is what we need now.
sure it would be great to have a second string QB that could start for another team.
not many teams are that lucky.
so lets just see what happens this week.
heck we went from having no roy williams playing to having 2 !!
so before you write them off, give it a chance.

dontcha just love football ??????

yep the Cards beat the Cowboys and the Cowboys beat the Cowboys.
now its time for the messageboard coaches to beat the Cowboys.
ESPN will certainly be Beating the Cowboys all week.
i will just be waiting til next week to see how we do against the Rams.
this is the NFL, they play every week. not a lotta time to wail and moan
and beat up on your team cuz hey you gotta get ready to go again.
i have been watching football a long time ( and so have most of you cuz
my demographic study commission tells me i dont draw the young crowd...guess
that comment i made in Blog # 267 about only liking 2 rap songs scared the younguns
away ).
anyway its been a while since i saw a game like that. KO returns, fumbles (even if they were ruled "tucks", sacks, big plays, little plays, good plays, bad plays,
no plays ( think time-out on blocked field goal) and "walk off, blocked punts".
you baseball fans will recognize that language. who has have ever heard of a "walk off blocked punt "?
but back to the point. I know it stinks that the Good Guys lost, its killing me.
and it was painful to watch as the greatness that was supposed to be the Cowboy machine got peeled away and exposed.
but you gotta admit its better than Reality TV. drama, suspense, intrigue, COMEDY !!
that game had it all !! heck maybe even conspiracy (if you are a Cards fan I know
you had to be thinking the refs had it in for your team).
so just chill out, The Boys of the Blue Star can still redeem themselves.
Look on the Bright Side.
for 3 1/2 hours we didnt have to think about politics, stock markets or bailouts.

who knows ?

sometimes i start this blog knowing what im gonna say, sometimes i dont.
this is one of those times.
i hate playing the cardinals.
i never know how the Boys are gonna do against them.
historically the Boys have done good.
BUT....every time i let myself think "ok its the cards..we oughta win"
the Good Guys play like crap and the cards play lights out and a L shows
up in the W/L column.
throw in the fact that Newman is out, Adam Jones has been a bit distracted,
and Kurt Warner is the QB and i gotta tell you I am a bit worried.
The quick drops wont allow us to get much pressure and that scares me a bit.
i am looking for this to be a high scoring game.
im hoping the O can light it up early and give the D some room to work with.
its been a weird week everywhere, stock market troubles, politics, the pacman incident,
people on message boards griping about the Boys, Wade Phillips, it has me more than
a little worried.
after all this is Halloween month.

my oh my

well good job to the Good Guys !
got yourselves a W, moved up to 4-1.
good start to a season i would say.
wasnt the prettiest game but then most of the time
they arent in the real world.
i know i know in Madden the Boys would have creamed the bungles.
there would have been no fumbles. no interceptions, nothing to mar the perfection
that is electronic football.
im not sure whats worse, Madden or Fantasy Football.
creates too many fans who dont seem to get what football is.
those 11 real human people on the other side really are trying to stop you.
they aint there just to add symmetry.
this interweb-net thing has given voice to some folks who think their team should
never give up any points.
and way too many folks think this is Oklahoma versus North Texas and the offense should " hang a half a hundred " every week. ( sorry Mean Green fans..nothing personal)
everybody is so intent on "not being a homer" they critique every lil thing.
ive read people griping about how the Cowboys players responded to post game interviews......gimme a break.
how would you like it if after a hard day at work, where you accomplished your goal
(winning the game is the goal by the way) some half baked writer who couldnt do your job started bad mouthing or downplaying your accomplishment ??
i know you guys...you folks of the chicken fried nation..you would tell that wimp
where to put his keyboard..heck you would even offer to put it there for him.

chalk up the win and start thinking about the good things in life...like being 4-1.

this ones important TOO !

i sure hope our Boys realize that this one counts just as much as
last weeks game and just as much as next weeks game too.
lotta hoopla this week about TO being mad or not, lotta talk
about poor coaching, bad tackling, poor coverage and no pressure
from last weeks game. ya gotta know...THAT WAS LAST WEEK !!
put all that outta your head, get your mind wrapped around the
Bengals. they actually pay their players too.
we got our second string safety hurt, ole Killa Davis is gonna have
to step up and play some D for us. The corners need to pick up their
game a bit to compensate.
its all too easy to get caught up in what we shudda done last week instead
of planning what we need to do THIS week.
im afraid i sense a way too casual attitude about playing the Bengals.
i know the fans dont seem to excited about the game because i have been watching
ticket prices fall all week. unreal, your team is 3-1 and people cant get excited ??
all i know is i am not taking the bungles for granted so dont blame me if things
go bad !
i expect our guys to come out and play hard, and i expect them to score A LOT. !
what im not so sure of is whether our D is gonna get off the field after 3 downs.
and i am really counting on that D to shut out Chad 85.
so local fans, scrape up your pennies, get on ebay and buy them cheap tickets.
i might gag if i see a lotta jungle stripes at the Tabernacle !

well that was poor

okay so i am not gonna rip the Boys for that poor excuse
for a football game.
not gonna rip them for their lack of intensity
not gonna rip em for not establishing a running game.
not gonna rip them for not covering santana moss, after all they never
do when they play the redskins.
not gonna rip tony romo for throwing ahead, behind or over his receivers.
not gonna rip those receivers for dropping balls that hit their hands.
not gonna rip the coaches for planning a bad game plan cuz i dont think they
even planned one.
not gonna rip those big uglies up front for not opening holes to run through
since we didnt run much anyway.
not gonna rip newman for looking lost all day long.
nope just not my nature to rip a team when they are down and they ARE way down.
i am getting sick and tired of seeing these guys play this way AT HOME against
division rivals.
a person could say that was a gutless, uninspired, lackadaisical ( thank goodness for spell check ) excuse for a football game but i wont say that. i may think it,
i may type it here for you to read, But i wont say it.
bad news is thats a division loss, good news is that its still early and we can still split with the skins by beating them at home.
now we gotta figure out a way to get ready to play the bungles even though we couldnt figure out a way to get ready to play the redskins.
okay, time to look ahead...later Poke

Redskins week

ohh boy.
time for another one.
memories, ghosts, anticipation.
dust off the cliches.
throw out the records.
bring on the redskins !!!!
after that last great home game against the eagles can this be any better ??
im sure hopin so.
i DO NOT wanna see santana moss streakin down the field after a catch.
i DO NOT wanna see the redskins tight end making catch after catch.
all i wanna see is ellis and ware and spencer and ratliff and even henry banging
on their QB. oh yeah throw in some canty and tank just for fun.
time to see adam jones pick one off and newman do the same.
time for TO to shine.
time for Barber and Witten to do what they do.
and time for ROMO to put together a total game, one where he doesnt force a throw,
or fumble a ball.
basically i wanna see the Cowboys play their best game yet.
when that happens the redskins can go back to DC whipped.
and now that i have seen AND heard the Texas Stadium crowd make the noise they did
against the iggles I wanna see and hear that again for our # 1 rivals.
man im glad they actually play the games and dont let the experts just decide who
should beat who.
this ones gonna be fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just remembered that at the redskins last game their fans started chanting " we want Dallas " ( not very original but hey they're redskins fans).

some of your players are hurt, some of your players are just getting back from injuries
, you have to play on the road, after a short week following a very intense game,
in a place where historically you have not played well.
you show up to play the game anyway. this aint Madden or fantasy crap.
you have to actually suit up, sweat, hit, be hit.
you are playing against guys who get paid to play too.
you start, stop, hit, miss, make some plays, give up some plays.
its close, no runaway game. at least not yet.
then you look up, wow, the game is nearly over, you lead 27-9, it hits you that
The Boys have held GB to only 3 field goals and have put up 27 stinking points !!
its garbage time, you dont give up anything deep, cheap or very quick.
final score 27-16, you just beat another NFC team that was highly regarded at their
house, and you start thinking " how could can our team get ?"
this oughta be fun folks, like our smilin, irrepresible QB says......enjoy the journey.

Its time for a WIN

December 31, 1967.
Its been over 40 years.
I was a kid, 11 years old.
The TV was in black and white.
The NFL was on CBS...always.
The field was frozen, so were the players, and the refs, even the marching band.
The Cowboys dug in, Jethro Pugh looked like a bull, pawing at the ground, trying to
dig a foothold so he can fight off the Packer lineman.
It didn't help.
Bart Starr scored.
I cried like a baby.
The Cowboys lost at Lambeau.
They have lost there since then but none stand out like that one.
I am sick of that memory.
I want to see the Boys leave their with a WIN.
Their first win at Lambeau, with a Wisconsin guy leading the way for the Boys.
That might not take away the pain from long ago, but it just might.
I have waited long enough. Just do it Cowboys !!!!!!

wow

been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
uh-huh, not at this game.
best game i ever saw at the Tabernacle of the Blue Star.
not most dominating, not most historic ( emmitt breaking the record ).
just the best, lead changes, kick off returns, long passes, big defensive plays
to seal the deal, this game had it all and then some.
LOUDEST CROWD EVER.
for this one you didnt need a seat cuz you werent gonna use it anyway.
didnt need a cell phone cuz nobody could hear what you were saying.
no camera required cuz who the heck wanted to take pictures when the next play
might be the most important play of the game.
did i mention LOUDEST CROWD EVER ?
my voice is just now sounding semi-normal. my ears finally quit ringing tuesday night.
i have watched it twice on my dvr already and i still cant get over it.
good thing i dont have to start getting ready to play green bay like our players
better be doing.
only negative....Texas Stadium ( ol Jerry himself) has got the tailgating all messed
up, only allowed on first and last rows in the blue lot, lotta event staff ridin
around in golf carts telling folks they cant have chairs set up behind their vehicles, dontcha dare let your stuff cross the yellow parking lines...gimme a break
Jerruh..im still gonna spend money when i get inside but dont mess with my plan of
getting there really early to beat the traffic.
heck for the first time ever i didnt even take a single picture of the Cheerleaders,
that oughta let you know how good the game was !!!!!
anyway now that my head has cleared a lil, guess it is time to think about the cheeseheads...time to finally win one at Lambeau.

A good start

That was a good first game, the first step towards what is hoped to be
a good season.
of course when its the Boys a good season includes a trip to The Super Bowl.
way too early to tell if that happens.
but you gotta start with the first game. i am not too sure the Browns were
a good test of how good the Boys are but you gotta like the way the offense
moved the ball, and how the defense kept the Browns from scoring.
you also have to wonder if things would have been different if the Browns QB
wouldnt have missed on several of his throws.
and the always present penalties...gee whiz how many years have we been saying
you gotta cut down the penalties !!
the rookies looked good, Zach Thomas was okay, i didnt think he was spectacular
but i think he will be, Adam Jones needs to keep improving, Greg Ellis said on the post game show he felt like a cornerback he was in coverage so much but their plan
to chip Winslow worked pretty well.
all in all a good start...but thats all it was..a start.
so dont go handing out any trophies just yet, next game should be a much stronger
test.......a monday nighter versus the Iggles...im already ready to go to Texas Stadium and see that one...
dontcha just love football season ??????

Finally...real football

okay the anger is nearly gone from the loss to the Giants.
the frustration nearly forgotten.
but the sense of lost chances remain in my head.
you dont get 13-3 very often.
you dont get first round byes very often.
you dont get playoff games at home very often.
Our Boys threw away a great possibility last year.
TIME to find out what kind of team we will have this year.

lets close out Texas Stadium the same way they opened it....with a Super Bowl win.

Temporary Program Change

for the next few days i may be posting baseball related stuff here.
my brother and i are going to New York to catch the Astros-Mets and then
finish off with Red Sox- Yankees at the last series between those 2 teams
at The House that Ruth Built. I may be posting pics here from my phone since
that works so easily.
So...Cowboy fans take care of the Boys while I'm gone..be back before the last
preseason game...

Moving On

okay so once again me and the owner of the Boys disagree about something.
its okay, he put out the big bucks to buy them so he has that right.
i hope it works out exactly how the Boys envision it and we dont miss terry glenn this year.
so now...camp is open, time to move on, work with the players you got, get better and get ready to play some football.
the great thing about sports is there is no predetermined outcome. 13-3 last year does not get you anything this year except a lower draft spot so no sense thinking about the past.
having 13 pro bowlers last year doesnt mean you have great players this year, only that you have a great chance.
so thank you Terry Glenn for your contributions, I am glad you were here, to be honest I will only miss you if nobody can stretch the defenses. Good Luck wherever you end up unless you are playing against the Boys.
oh yeah, since you could still end up here keep working out !

Get Glenn IN !!

okay so its been like forever ( literally) since Mr. Jones has asked my opinion on
well...anything, but that doesnt mean i am not gonna offer my advice.
GET TERRY GLENN TO CAMP....drop this idea of a contract that says if your bad knee
craps out we only have to pay you this much but if its good we will pay you this much.
i know Glenn got a lot of money last year and didnt play enough to help the Boys,
but hey he had a contract that said he was owed that money so you pay him. it isnt like
they paid him just cuz he was a nice guy.
Get him into camp, work his butt off, then decide if he looks like he can play, if so
play him and pay him what his contract says, if you watch him and the knee doesnt look strong then cut him, pay him what you owe him and move on.
BUT...know this: with Terry Glenn, healthy and playing, the Boys ARE better than without him. It wasn't that long ago that he was the best at getting open deep and making great catches.
Mr. Jones usually doesnt let money get in the way of building a great team, so I will
not be surprised if he gets this all worked out but I had to let him know what my advice would be. You are welcome Mr. Jones.
of course i could be wrong...later Poke

test run

okay, its 100 degrees, no rain in weeks, none of my baseball teams
look too impressive...so must be time for training camp !!!!!!!
1 more week, then real live football news.
not just who signed or who didnt.
not who went where with who.
not golf tournaments with QB's.
football. practices. sweat.
so i figured i better make sure i remembered how to post here.
20 of 22 starters back off a 13-3 team really has me hopin for the best.
and for the Boyz..as usual its Super Bowl or bust.
i wouldnt want it any other way.
cya in about a week.

rumors...more rumors...dang rumors

okay so its free agent/ draft time for the NFL, and the airwaves, newspapers,
and blogospheres are filled with hot off the press stories of jim bob to this team
and joe don to that team and so and so will get picked 79th if whatshisname goes
47th to a team that might trade up if they dont trade down.
and of course if you make enough predictions you can then point back and say...
"see I am a genius/ clairvoyant cuz I tole ya so !!"
in keeping with the spirit of the season I am gonna jump right in, make up some half-truths, repeat some rumors and stand in line for my turn to be a guru of all things that nobody knows.
according to my "unnamed source", (actually he has a name i just dont want to tell you)
a friend of his told a nurse they know that a homeless guy found a note in a bottle, had it taken away from him by the po-lice when he was arrested for preaching
"the end is near " too close to an all-night adult book store, the police had the note
un-encrytped cuz they thought it might have something to do with the recently disclosed
JFK papers released by the dallas DA and the note said...and I quote, " the Cowboys have acquired Roy Williams from the Detroit Lions"....so there ya have it. I believe it, and wanted the whole wide world to know about it. Now i will probably have to go into hiding for protection since a lowly blogger like myself isnt supposed to know these things before all the high priced journalists...so i think i will go to the bahamas for a bit.........later Poke

what an ending Super Bowl 42

wow, what an ending to fairly boring game.
i am pretty happy that i stink at predicting how games
will turn out.
lil eli grew up big time.
hats off to the new york football giants.
i know i am supposed to hate the giants.
and i usually do.
but....it used to be that you rooted for the team
that knocked you out, if for no other reason than it
made you look not as bad..oh yeah and maybe it was good
sportmanship too ( not that i have ever been accused of that).
so maybe now we dont have to listen to how the patsies are the
best team ever anymore...and now eli can look peyton right in the eye
and say " yeah so what i got a ring too".
so all thats left is the pro bowl...then its all over till the draft,
then training camp, then pre-season....boom football again.
now if my baseball teams can just have good years i might make it that long.

techno geek stuff

well since the Boyz are not playing anymore I have
decided to spend my time learning more about Blogger.
apparently they have a feature where I can put youtube
on this site and show Cowboy related videos to the legions
of people who wake up every day just to see whats on here.
so i researched, hacked code, and learned how to do it
(actually you just point and click a couple of times)
and I now have youtube videos about the Cowboys that you
can view without ever leaving this blog site. We will see
how it works out, I may or may not leave it. Hope you enjoy.
oh yeah, football...uhhhh I am predicting a Patriots victory.

big decisions for Cowboys....and their fans

okay..it ended badly. admit it, if the Boyz arent in the Super Bowl
a season is wasted if you are a follower of the Good Guys with the stars
on their helmets. we got spoiled a long time ago and it just wont go away.
its our burden to bear and so we do.
which brings us to the off-season. this years is gonna be especially long.
free agent moves need to be made, whataya do ?? WR ? CB ? LB ?
which of the ones on our own team do you bring back ?
then after those choices are made its on to the draft.
woohoo...hold on to your hats...could be dicey, RB in the first round ??
or CB ? surely not a WR, but who really knows ? not me.
I dont even pretend that i know which direction jerry and wade and the braintrust
are gonna go. I also dont watch enough college ball to know who will make the BIG
jump to the next level and be great. lotta talking and guessing and just plain making
stuff up in the papers and on espn. take it all with a grain of salt.
besides i have a much more pressing dilemma.
WHO DO I WANT TO WIN THE SUPER BOWL ??
do i want the cheating, dirty, over talented, patriots to win and finish the
season undefeated ?? if it happens get ready to overdose on "greatest ever" stories
from every hack, blog and talking head out there. i am not really in the mood for
all that, but i am getting my mind ready for the possibility. i mean, be honest,
the Patriots are good, very good. i have watched them some, and i think whoever they
are playing has a good chance to beat them, and then next thing you know the pats
are pulling a victory out and i am left wondering what happened.
BUT...can i really root for the giants ?? thats gonna be hard to do too, although
since shockey isnt playing it wont make me as sick. i am not one of those eli bashers
either. be real, eli is an nfl qb, he has it in his blood and his brains. he may be
goofy looking, and he throws interceptions sometimes but he can and will beat you.
but i just cant root for the trash talking giants of jacobs and ohara can i??
i also cant watch a game without wanting one team to win. seems to lose its appeal
when i try that. so i gotta choose. anybody got a coin i can flip ??

all wrapped up

okay so an official wrap up is required.
nothing expert, professional or unbiased about
what i will say, just my feelings from watching
the game at The Tabernacle.
Looked to me like our defense got too concerned
with stopping the run and not letting anybody get
deep on us to the detriment of our pass rush.
Offensively it looked like we were bound and determined
to run the ball at the Gints and for whatever reason
that was to the detriment of our passing game. Mr. Romo
never looked comfortable throwing the ball, i dont know
why nor will i speculate
Special teams pretty much sucked kicking and receiving.
So to sum up, our team got beat by their team. I know
the stats say we did better but sometimes stats lie.
I felt good about our chances until that TD before the half,
didn't feel too bad until we kicked a FG instead of scoring a TD,
was cautiously optimistic on the last 2 drives but just didn't
have a feeling that we could score when we really needed to.
Our #3 receiver played probably his worst game of the year and
that bugs me cause I had started expecting more of him.
That only leaves the coaches and to be honest, they did not
have this team ready to play Sunday. I know million dollar men
shouldn't need to be "motivated" but I have always felt like they do
in fact need it. Theres a reason special coaches have more success than
everybody else. However do NOT take this a call for anyones job.
I am happy with the coaches who are still here and look forward to seeing the new
coaches. I am a fan, so just know I will be watching the offseason and getting
pumped up for next year cuz its gonna be good.

this is gonna be fun !!

its been a long time coming. 11 years since the last win
in the playoffs. i gotta tell you i havent been this pumped
in a while. i am feeling very confident about the Boyz.
cant explain exactly why, dont even care why. it feels good.
dont care that a lot of the media think the gints are gonna win,
i have sworn off most radio this week cuz i am tired of hearing
how eli has matured, plaxico is super and their defense unstoppable.
i will take my chances with tony, terrell owens, witten, barber,
glenn....YES !! glenn !!, really looking forward to watching him burn
somebody. I even think julius jones is gonna play lights out this week.
the Cowboy defense should be primed and pumped, they gotta know that
lil eli will get that deer in the headlights look if they just whack
him a few times early. look for Roy W. to play better than he has all year.
i just gotta another one of them feelings.
anyway, its gonna be fun, i am going to try and post pics of the game and some pre
game activities from my phone. too bad i dont have a great feeling about my
ability to actually get that done. we will see. look for me on TV, i will be wearing
white and waving the towel they are supposed to be handing out.

problems problems problems

woe is me...worry worry worry...nobody loves me, everybody hates me
i'm gonna eat a worm.
sorry i dont remember where i learned that last line but dontcha feel sorry
for us poor dallas cowboy fans ??
we got problems, injuries, no momentum, scouting directors leaving,
coaches being interviewed for other jobs, ticket prices going sky high.
its enough to give a guy ulcers or grey hair or something.
BUT..guess what ??
13-3 cures a lotta ills.
Home field advantage and first round byes for starters.
and is it really a bad thing that other teams WANT your coaches and front
office people ?? we never had to worry about people wanting our guys during the
5-11 seasons did we ??
and maybe Big bill will trade for a few of our players now that he is running the show
in miami....(i can think of a couple he can have).
so ya'll go ahead and fret and worry if you want to, I'm gonna sit back, enjoy the
year we have had so far and count on Bums lil boy to get us headed to the Super Bowl.
besides surely by now TO has that hyperbaric chamber cranked up full blast.
